With the thought of 6 weeks’ of French food on the horizon, I fancied something spicy for dinner, so hubby took me for a curry. We head home, as normal, he falls asleep on the sofa as I grab the remote control and start channel hopping – you’ll never guess which film has just started . . . yes, “Julie & Julia”.
For those of you not familiar with this film, it contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog that made her a published author.
There are certainly a couple of moments in the film that really resonated with me. If you are familiar with the film, you will recall the moment that Julie set up her blog as well as the moment she received her first comment. Those reactions were exactly the reactions that I had when I set up MY blog and received MY first comment (you know who you are, so thank you for that!) – elation does not describe it! It reminded me of the moment when I created my Facebook account and started to build my network – I feel that I am building a whole new network via this blog. Thank you for visiting, please feel free to comment as I would love to hear from you; why don’t you tell me where I should visit when I am in Paris? I promise to report back!
It’s all starting to get a bit scary now. The planets are scarily aligning and all signs are pointing to me heading to Paris to be in the place that Julia Child learned to cook. Don’t worry, I won’t be getting my pearl necklace out just yet.
One last thing, I’ve just added a couple of books to my reading list “My Life in France” and “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” both written by, you guessed it, Julia Child – “Bon appetit!”
