There is always something happening here in Paris.
I’ve noticed, as I have been cycling around Place de la République all week, that they have been building a huge stage. I asked P what they were up to and he mentioned that this would be for ‘La Fête de la Musique’. He got very excited telling me that this was to celebrate the start of summer, which just so happened to be today (the longest day) and is a celebration of all genres of music. He told me that there would be music everywhere across Paris, with musicians having the right to just pop up anywhere and play – as long as they give their time for free.
I was getting quite excited as I headed home following my near terrorist exploits as I could see people getting ready to enjoy the evening’s entertainment. The fun had even started along the Canal St Martin where there were a few groups already playing.
A few of us decided to go along to a bar where a friend of ours was the sound operator for a band. By the time we got there, there were no seats, so we decided to head elsewhere and found a great place with a brilliant band playing. We installed ourselves with a glass of wine and a platter of cooked meat and enjoyed an evening of live music on the streets of Paris in the glow of the evening sun.
We ended up in a tiny bar called Piou Piou who had gathered quite a crowd with their band playing a selection of French, Brazilian and Spanish music.
Still no cake posts dear readers – tomorrow I promise, I’ll also tell you about Samba wars.
